Frequently Asked Questions

Clary sage has a warm, herbal fragrance with subtle floral and slightly fruity undertones. It’s not sharp or citrusy — instead it feels calming and earthy, like a peaceful herbal garden after rain. Many people find the scent grounding and soothing rather than intense or spicy.
Yes, a lot of people use it in diffusers or blends specifically to create a calming, balanced atmosphere. It’s one of those oils that doesn’t scream ‘relax,’ but quietly encourages you to unwind and take a breath, making it lovely for evenings or moments when you need a peaceful feel.
Absolutely! It pairs especially well with lavender for a gentle, calming combination, and with citrus oils like bergamot or orange if you want to keep things fresh but still grounded. You can also blend it with rosemary or frankincense for a more earthy, calming mix.
Yes — as long as you dilute it with a carrier oil first. Clary sage is gentle compared to some stronger oils, but it’s still concentrated in its pure form, so mixing it into something like jojoba or almond oil makes it much more comfortable for the skin.
Start with 2–3 drops and see how you like the aroma. Clary sage has a soothing but noticeable scent, so that amount is usually enough to fill a room without feeling too heavy. You can always add another drop if you want it a bit stronger.
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place — sunshine and heat can dull the scent over time. A drawer or cabinet works perfectly, and this little bit of care helps the oil smell just as lovely weeks and months later.

This therapeutic-grade essential oil comes in a 30ml amber bottle with dropper. Customers praised its "calming and relaxing" herbal-floral scent, noting effectiveness for stress relief, sleep improvement, and reducing night sweats. Works well in diffusers, soaps, and diluted for topical use. One customer reported an unsecured cap issue.

First of all, this is not Sage, the herb!

So, this is not intended to cleanse your placepeople of bad juju. This is the flower, Clary sage, of the Salvia family. This essential oil is used for upset stomach and other digestive disorders, kidney diseases, menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea), symptoms of menopause... It's the first time I came across it. I don't particularly like the scent, but my daughter has PMS, so I'm hoping this might be of some help!

I can't attest to the pain relief, but the smell is phenomenal

I diffuse oils throughout my apartment, and I make homemade body butters and salves with essential oils. I'm always looking for high quality therapeutic grade essential oils for my purposes and little hobby, and this absolutely exceeds all expectations in quality, scent, and ability to dispense. Clary sage is such a soothing scent, I'd definitely recommend.

Fantastic Clary Sage scent, 100 natural oil and high quality, 1 fl oz glass bottle.

Clary Sage is probably my favorite essential oil to use in a diffuser, the scent is excellent, and the Brooklyn botany Clary Sage oil is top-notch, perfect scent, and comes in a large 1 fl oz amber glass bottle (which protects the oil from UV light), plus includes a glass dropper to make it easy to dispense, even without using my diffuser a drop on a table will fill the room with the scent, it's amazing and 100 pure and natural.. Overall I have no problem recommending the Clary Sage scent, these are high quality oils and are even tested by an independent lab. Made in the USA.

Sweet aroma of relaxation!

I love the aroma. Its great for a diffuser because it keeps your house smelling fresh, relaxing super calming energy. I placed mine in a spray bottle diluted with some water to use more as a air freshener and spray on the furniture. The fragrance is super pungent so a little goes a long ways. I love aromatherapy so this was a great scent to add.

Great quality and wonderful fragrance

This item is a 30ml amber bottle of clary sage essential oil. This bottle comes with a convenient dropper, making it easy to measure and use the oil without any waste. The oil is claimed to be therapeutic grade, which would ensure maximum potency and effectiveness. I have used this oil in my diffuser to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere in my den. I find the clary sage's herbal and floral scent to be soothing and helps to reduce my stress and anxiety when paired with some classical music. It's also said to be great for massage and skin therapy when diluted with a carrier oil. The amber glass bottle protects the oil from UV rays, preserving its quality and potency. I find the price point for this high quality oil to be most reasonable. Overall, this bottle of clary sage essential oil is a versatile and effective product that I would recommend for anyone looking to enhance their aromatherapy efforts and it is also worthy for exploring skincare opportunities.

Excellent Clary Sage Oil

This is an excellent Clary Sage essential oil. The lovely aroma of the Clary Sage is very strong and only small amounts are needed for a diffuser. Clary Sage is versatile and I've been adding this to not only my diffuser, but to essential oil necklaces, soaps, shampoo, and my own metaphysical oils. Metaphysical properties of this herb include spiritual protection and spiritual cleansing of negativity. This product is pure, quality, and free from fillers, so it's perfect for metaphysical purposes. Highly recommend!

Smells lovely

I've never had clary sage in my big collection of oils before, but I ADORE this! Smells amazing, like a blend of herbal and floral (the kind of flower that grows on herb plants, anyways). Very calming and uplifting scent.

Smells wonderful

I wasn't familiar with Clary Sage so didn't know what to expect. To me it smells kind of flowery, like lavender, with a hint of minty and grassy undertones. I just put a few drops in my diffuser and it smelled absolutely wonderful. Overall it had a calming effect on me.

Quality essential oil at an accessible price

The Brooklyn Botany essential oils (in this case, Clary Sage) are well packaged inside a box; the oil is packaged with a screw cap and a dropper is included. The bottle is amber to protect against UV rays. I appreciated the directions on the bottle advising external use only, and also to use topically if diluted with a carrier oil. I would order this product again; I appreciate that Brooklyn Botany does third party independent testing to ensure the quality of their products. I do wish those testing sheets were available for viewing.

Earthy, woody scent

We recently decided to try essential oils but since we have a cat we have to be careful of what we use and where. Since I read that Clary Sage is one of the safer oils to use around cats I decided to give this one a try. I had no idea what it smelled like but figured probably better than cat litter. It came very well packaged with a dropper included and a plug under the cap to prevent leakage during shipping. I must have gotten an older package because there was no protector on the dropper. It did not come damaged though and will live in the bottle so that's fine. When I smelled it from the bottle it had a very earthy and woody scent with a very sweet undertone so I was excited to try it in a reed diffuser in our bathroom. I diluted it quite a bit and unfortunately the sweet scent became unnoticeable. The scent reminds me of sandalwood which I do quite like but I think I would like to add something sweet to it, maybe chamomile since that is also safer to use with cats. The bottle is quite large compared to other essential oils I have gotten for around the same price so it seems to be a good deal. I think the dropper is a good idea as well because other oils I have used have the European style dropper in the bottle and those seem to drip a little and are less easy to control. This dropper works very well and is higher quality than other droppers I have encountered in that it pulls the oil up and doesn't leak out everywhere when you tilt it a bit.

Clary Sage Essential Oil, Crisp Clear Scent

This Brooklyn Botany Clary Sage Essential Oil looks great. It is clear thin runny liquid, which is the right consistency that I expect 100 percent essential oil to have. It has a crisp clear smell , very green smelling, like a really intense celery. I've never smelled Clary Sage before, but it is so unique this scent, it seems quite distinct and authentic to me. I imagined it would be more lovely smelling, but it wasn't really an ideal diffuser oil for me aromatherapy wise. I'll give it 5 stars however for being a high-quality product and one that seems to me to be exactly what they claim. If you want 100 clary sage specifically- this would be a good one to try.

Cap wasn't secure

Thankfully I was going to use the dropper, however, in a lot of essential oils they have that plastic bit that makes it so that only a drop or two comes out. That cap was NOT secure on my bottle when I went to take it out. It just fell out into my hand. Had I tried getting a couple drops out, I would have emptied the bottle. As for the oil itself, it's refreshing and I've been using it in an essential oil air freshener. It brings a bit of a christmasy scent. Definitely fresher than the stale air my car usually has, since I don't drive as much as I used to.

Unique and refreshing scent.

I've used this brand's Lavender essential oil in the past and quite liked it so I decided to try out this one as well. Scent can be subjective, but I'd describe this one as herby and fresh. It comes in a dark brown glass bottle with normal lid and a separate dropperlid. I have been using it in my potpourri and while it seemed overly strong at first, I decreased the amount and found it to be much better.

Smells Right

Buying essential oils on the Internet is a crapshoot. I am a connoisseur so my smeller is particular. This actually does smell like Clary sage and I would not hesitate to purchase again.

A very impressive Clary Sage oil

I've used Clary Sage before -- on my hair, to condition it. I always thought Clary Sage smelled like sweaty zoo animals, so I was VERY impressed at the scent of this Brooklyn Botany Clary Sage Essential Oil. It DOES have an earthy scent but it's not repulsive. And it appears to be much purer than what I had been using (different brand) before, so I am happy with (1) it and (2) the size of the bottle - and also (3) the price because I definitely AM getting what i paid for. When I mixed just a tad of pure Lavender oil in with it in a separate bottle, the scent was so much better. I applied some of this Clary Sage Essential Oil -- neet -- on my skin with just a little water as a carrier, and was pleased at the results. But I'm also happy with using it by itself-- a little goes a very long way for me. The dropper is accurate, fills and dispenses easily.

mmmm Clary Sage

This bottle of goodness smells fantastic and it blends well with other scents. This is not medical advice but Clary Sage may be good for a number of female issues, including perimenopause symptoms. It can be used in a diffuser or topically if you dilute it with a carrier oil. When i was pregnant we made candles with Clary Sage and Lavender to burn while I was in labor. It did help with a calming atmosphere. I've been using this Clary Sage essential oil in my diffuser and experimenting with other scents. It's lovely and relaxing and helps me drift off to sleep more easily when I use it at bedtime.

nice strong scent

This clary sage oil has a unique scent, although not unpleasant at all. I like that it's a 1-ounce bottle and comes with a dropper. Another reviewer mentioned that it pairs well with lavender, so I tried that out in my diffuser, and it was very nice. I love essential oils and like trying out different ones as they all have great benefits. Highly recommend.

very light scent

I've never used sage essential oil before so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. The scent on this oil is very light that I can hardly smell much of anything at all. It did smell somewhat refreshing if I tried to inhale hard enough. I use this in in combination with other oils (peppermint, lavender) and the result smelled very good though I can only smell mostly of the peppermint and lavender.

Smells fantastic!

This clary sage smells wonderful and I love that it comes with a dropper top for mess free dispensing. Ill be using it in both melt and pour and cold process soap, as well as in a diffuser I have. I expect the longevity will be excellent in the diffuser, good in the melt and pour and fugitive in the cold process soap. Im basing this on the performance of other clary sage oil Ive used for these purposes over the years. Will update if Im wrong!
